The Journey of My Mother's Son

Jun 25, 2021

In this episode of The Journey of my Mother’s Son podcast, I sit down and talk with another one of my grand-daughter’s, Lillian Lingle.

One of the locations that we stay at when we come back to visit in Pennsylvania is at Lillian’s parents’ house in Duncannon.

At 14 years old, Lillian is wise beyond her years.  She is an athlete who currently plays field hockey and softball, and like her grandfather, enjoys writing.

She just came off two great seasons in both field hockey and softball.

Her junior high field hockey team went 12-2-2 this spring, one of the best seasons in recent school history.  Lillian talks about overcoming her anxiety regarding playing a new position this season and how important it was that her team had great chemistry both on and off of the field.

Following a great field hockey season, she jumped right into softball and her team went 10-0 in the regular season.  They lost one game in the double-elimination play-off tournament, but quickly overcame that set-back by defeating that same opponent in the championship game.  The team didn’t have high expectations when the season started, but they adopted an attitude of going out and just relaxing and having fun playing as opposed to trying to put unnecessary pressure on themselves.

We also talk about how writing can be very therapeutic.  Lillian generally writes fiction short stories and she talks about how her stories allow her to create another reality in which readers can join her in her creativity and imagination.

Sandy and I love spending time with our grandchildren and watching them grow up into fine young adults.  I’m sure that you’ll enjoy listening to the conversation between Lillian and I.
