The Journey of My Mother's Son

Dec 10, 2021

In this episode of “The Journey of My Mother’s Son” podcast, I bring back Sandy to help me co-host as we sit down to chat with our friends, Juan and Mary Montalvo.

We met Juan and Mary while working on the A Year to Volunteer project at Picacho Peak State Park.  They are fellow full-time RVers who also have a spirit of giving back and helping others.  We had an immediate connection with them and wanted to help tell the story of what led them to their full-time journey.

In 2015, Mary had a fight with breast cancer and after winning that battle, her and Juan decided that they weren’t getting any younger and felt that it was time for them to start their Hungry Cuban Adventure.

Mary, a retired nurse, felt that it was time to start a new chapter, so after months of prayer, research, and conversation, they started this chapter in 2017.

Juan, a retired firefighter and paramedic turned chef loves to feed people, so that has been at the heart of their service to others on their journey.

They document their adventures through their YouTube channel, called “The Hungry Cuban Adventures.”
