The Journey of My Mother's Son

Oct 24, 2022

In this episode of “The Journey of My Mother’s Son” podcast, I sit down to talk with Bobbi Kahler.

An entrepreneur for more than 20 years, Bobbi has coached upwards of 3,000 people and has delivered presentations for tens of thousands of people.  She helps people to see new possibilities for themselves and for their lives.

Her undergrad degree was in human performance improvement and her graduate degree was based on the science of human flourishing.

She has appeared in articles for Forbes, The Today Show, Yahoo News, Thrive Global, Authority Magazine and Influencive.  She is the author of Travels of the Heart: Developing Your Inner Leader, she was a contributing author to the Amazon and NY Times best-selling book, Masters of Success, and she is the host of her podcast: UnYielded: Thriving No Matter What.

In her own words, Bobbi says:

“On a cold New Year’s Eve when I was 23 years old, my life was at a dead end.

I worked 2 jobs and ate tuna and macaroni salad for dinner almost every night.

I had had to fight with my mom to stay in high school.  College was a distant dream – but only if I could find a way to pay for it.

That night, after working my two jobs, I went home to my lonely, dark apartment and thought:

“How did my life turn out this way?”

The answer that came back to me was that my life was simply a reflection of the choices that I had made so far.

Truthfully, that wasn’t the answer I wanted.  I’m not proud of it, but my 23-year-old self wanted something or someone to blame.

In that moment, I knew that no one was coming to rescue me. No one was going to come and knock on my door and save me from my default future.  That was a little scary.

But, then I realized how powerfully hopeful that was because if it were true that my life was a reflection of the choices that I’d made so far then that meant that if I learned to make better choices then I could change my results – and my future.

I didn’t need anyone to rescue me.

That was empowering.

That experience led me to devote myself to studying self-leadership, Emotional Intelligence, and Positive Intelligence (Mental Fitness) and ultimately to Bachelor’s Degree in Human Performance Improvement and a graduate degree based on the science of positive psychology (human flourishing).

It also led me to my 3 fundamental truths:

  1. The future can be changed. It is not set in stone.
  2. YOU – and only you – can change your future.
  3. You don’t have to wait. Anything that you need to learn, you can learn along the way.

I am passionate about helping people learn how to lead their own life – not just live the default life.  I want people to not tolerate their life, but to truly love it.”
